This summertime treat is perfect for adults! While most of the alcohol burns off while you’re, some will remain, so be careful in indulging your children with this treat!
This recipe developed from trial and error. I saw a friend’s wife use a variation once, and went home and started experimenting…and came up with…this! Enjoy - my family, friends and I sure do!
Kahlua Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
Ingredients:
1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate squares (8 oz. - I prefer “Baker’s” brand)
4 tbsp. butter (unsalted)
1/2 c. Kahlua
1 pint fresh strawberries, with stems intact
Method:
1. In a medium saucepan, begin melting butter, slowing pouring in Kahlua.
2. Add chocolate, after breaking squares into smaller pieces.
3. Stir continuously to ensure even melting and mixing.
4. Once chocolate mixture is evenly mixed, dip strawberries one by one and set aside on a cookie pan to harden.
5. Chill strawberries in your refrigerator for 1 hour and they’ll be ready to serve!
Variation:
~Other liquors can be substituted for Kahlua, including Chambord, Bailey’s, or Creme de Menthe.
~To create non-alcoholic strawberry treats, substitute the 1/2 cup of Kahlua with 4 tbsp. of butter. (And yes, a 1/2 c. is equivalent to 4 tbsp. You found me out!)
Tips:
~Every time I use this recipe, I experiment with the quantities of butter and Kahlua, because every time seems to require a slightly different amount of each to create a smooth chocolate mixture. If you find your mixture seeming to dry out, add 1 tbsp. of butter at a time. If you find your mixture seeming to clump, add 1 tbsp. of Kahlua at a time.
~For the record, I usually eyeball the Kahlua…I somehow can’t bring myself to pour liquor into a measuring cup!
