It is getting to be that time again. School will be starting before you know it and you will need to purchase those needed school supplies. If your child’s elementary teacher does not send out a “school supply list” of items which will be needed in the classroom, here is an all purpose list you can use for shopping purposes:
* Backpack
* Lunchbox/Paper Bags
* Crayons/Washable Markers/Colored Pencils
* Glue Sticks/Elmer’s White Glue
* Index Cards
* Safety Scissors
* Ruler
* Package of Pencils
* Lined Paper (Ask the teacher whether wide ruled or narrow ruled is appropriate.)
* Several Pocket Folders
A relatively new trend at most schools has the students providing the tissues and anti-bacterial hand sanitizer for the room. Anti-bacterial wipes are also much appreciated in the elementary classroom. Purchase one of each of these items and offer them to the teacher on the first day of school.
Clothes for your elementary student will depend on the particular elementary school your child attends. Many now have a “uniform” of khaki pants and polo shirts. Others have formal uniforms which you must purchase at specialized stores. Call the school office to find out the dress code and requirements at your particular school before doing any “back to school” clothes shopping.
The above list is a good, general list from which to shop from. However, each individual teacher and school will have different supply requirements. Get the items listed and ask on the first day of school if there are any additional purchases you need to make.
*Don’t spend a fortune on school supplies! Most office supply and discount stores have “back to school” sales where you can find crayons, markers, colored pencils, regular pencils, paper and most of the other items for under $1! If you miss the sales, check out your local dollar store, as they will probably have what you need, too.
