Montana, also known as Big Sky Country, is an area of the United States that is still quite wild. There are some big cities, but spread in between is lots of grassy spaces, mountains, and bright skies. It is one of the few places where you can still see such land in its natural beauty. There are many unique and interesting things to do while visiting in the state of Montana.

Montana shares a piece of Yellowstone National Park. This park is located in the southwest corner of the state and is shared with Wyoming and Idaho. Yellowstone is home to geysers and other geothermal activity. There are also beautiful lakes, mountains, and wild flowers to enjoy in this park.

Glacier National Park is another of the larger attractions in Montana. This park is located on the northern border of Montana and is partially shared by Canada. Glacier is known for its wonderful hiking trails and boasts of over 1,000,000 acres of lakes, meadows, and forests. There are also 350 historic sites also located in this national park. The park’s connection with Canada also stands as a symbol peace and friendship between the United States and Canada. Glacier is also a great place to spy many different types of wildlife.

For those who wish to enjoy the many trails in Montana, there are several ways of going about it. Hiking is one of the most popular and easy ways. There are also trails where biking is available. Horseback riding is another way to view the wild scenery in the state. In the winter time, snowmobiling and cross country skiing are also popular.

For the traveler who wishes for an easy way to view the countryside without having to do the driving or walking, there are several rail tours offered in Montana. These tours travel through the Rockies and across the Great Plains. You can see things that you wouldn’t be able to see from your car. Rugged mountains, wild rivers, and historic Old West towns can be seen from the rail cars.

Whitewater river rafting might just be the thrill that you are looking for. Seeing Montana from its various rivers gives visitors a fresh new perspective of the land. From the peaks of the mountains to the plateaus of Yellowstone, a whitewater raft tour will be quite the adventure. If whitewater is a little too rough for you, then a calm boat ride on the Upper Missouri River is probably more your style while still allowing you to enjoy a unique view.

Montana is also home to the Museum of the Rockies. This museum takes you through 4 billion years of history. There are dinosaur exhibits and exhibits dealing with the local Native Americans. One of the most popular parts of the museum is the Taylor Planetarium. This gives you a new perspective on the “Big Sky” of Montana. There is also an area that is open during the summer months that is outdoors and recreates life on a Montana farm over 100 years ago.

For the adults, Montana also has casinos, breweries, and other night life type activities. There are festivals at certain times of the years and rodeos to take in. As far as breweries, there are more than a dozen microbreweries. There are also a number of different casinos to choose from.

Traveling to Montana can be a lot like stepping back in time. You can enjoy the natural beauty, unspoiled by man. They also have much of the big city life that people are used to as well.
