About This Editor: I am a writer. Have been writing for other sites, but expect to do most of my future work HERE! My expertise extends from the esoteric such as burning hydrogen to the unpredictability of the stock market and my writing makes me a jack of all trades and exasperated master of none. I have had some influence over national wildfire and water policy and there are hints of a change in energy policy, BUT as Samuel Goldwyn once said, "A verbal promise is not worth the paper it is written on."

Were I to suddenly come into a large sum of money, something I can dream about, I would seriously consider buying a luxury watch. Why not? Watching time fly is a well known, time honored past time.

So as long as I am dreaming I have begun looking at watch advertisements to see what the industry thinks is up-to-date and fashionable.

“The New York Times” has been carrying a lot of ads in recent days that spot light not only high quality luxury watches but also just as expensive jewelry. Two time pieces that have caught my attention are Jacob & Co’s Five Time Zone Automatic listed at $14,800 and Girard-Perregaux’s WW.TC Financial Time priced at $12,000 at Tourneau.

The Five Time Zone Automatic has a main dial giving current time and four sub-dials giving the time in New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Moscow along with the date. The Girard-Perregaux Financial Time lists all twenty-four time zones from London to Paris to Cairo to Moscow to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney and so forth on the outer rim of the dial, giving far more options, along with, of course, the date.

I think this appeals to me because when I was in a position to make phone calls from one time zone to another such as California to New York, I have had to keep the difference in time in mind since, in real world terms, it does not pay to call New York from Berkeley, say, before noon in California since that translates to nine a.m. in New York, unless I wanted to wake someone up.

There are also a number of dual time zone watches from Ulysse Nardin to Jaeger-LeCoultre to Swiss Army, which uses an extra hand on the primary dial, but they do not appeal to me.

There are also slickly designed watches including those from Rado and Movado, but I ask myself am I buying a piece of jewelry or a useful watch. Time will tell what I eventually do do.
