By some yardsticks, I have had the time and opportunity to travel to many inviting locations with comfortable surroundings in this big, bold and relaxing country of ours so I feel entirely at ease writing about vacations, cruises and cross country domestic travel.
With the exception of taxi drivers and others who criss cross New York City to earn a living or engage in business, I have probably seen more of this Big City than most, especially since I have been living here for nigh sixty years. For instance, we have five zoos (count them), a number of botanical facilities (Brooklyn, Bronx, etc.) and more museums than the next two municipalities combined.
I have even been a paid member of some of these local cultural institutions and have participated in many of their programs, including tours of other cultural facilities in the Greater Metropolitan Area including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. This would include but not be limited to The Museum of Modern Art, The Cooper-Hewitt, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Bronx Botanical Garden and so on.
In addition, there are many travel oriented companies in the City offering convenient getaways everywhere from Canada to Mexico and most points in between so I have used the services of Amtrak, the Long Island Railroad, Metro North, several bus tour companies and a few airlines to see California, Las Vegas and its surroundings, Georgia, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., South Carolina, Canada and many points in between.
Of course, there are many substantial and interesting museums, not necessarily in New York City, specializing in everything from art to historical artifacts such as trains and cars and the many ariticles of everyday life often used to stage dramatic re-enactments. I have been on boats such as Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls, several different Circle Line rides including long trips up the Hudson River toBear Mountain and West Point, the Statue of Libery and all around Manhattan, and ferries of all kinds to all sorts of destinations from Connecticut and Maryland plus more than one submarine and some whale watching and even helicopter tours of Las Vegas and Niagara Falls.
There are also the beauties of nature, enhanced and just laid out for the public to savor.
Along the way, I have eaten quail eggs, plus mustard pretzels and Phily chesse steak in Philadelphia, on more than one occasion , buffalo meat in San Francisco, nice, plain and fancy food in Pennsylvania Dutch country, and sweet and sour Chinese food all over the place.
So I have been around, have enjoyed lots of travel and fell competent to write about the subject.
