I remember the last time the government worked on immigration reform legislation. They ended up requiring people like you and me to show identification to get a job, especially a social security number. So now every time I have a job interview I need to produce a card with my social security number, a photo identification and other things like that. Okay, so I actually have authentic documents, but every once in a while I misplace something so it can be annoying either finding the original or scrounging up a replacement.
And it appears that that alleged immigration reform did not do much good. Now the government claims there are ten million more people who just strolled in and are working supposedly, up from three million last time. How they get jobs is hard for me to understand since the documentation was supposed to make it difficult to get hired. For my part, my proof of identity is real and verifiable since I have been in this country, mostly New York, all the time. Is somebody asleep at the wheel or is more fraud going on than the government wants to acknowledge? Worse yet to consider, all these people who have false social security numbers are supposed to be paying taxes. What is going on here? Are the taxes being paid? Are people going to get fake social security benefits or is there more fraud going on?
This whole matter certainly has raised doubts in my mind about the proposal to require illegals to go back to their home country, register there, wait a while and then return here. How is this irksome requirement going to increase compliance? If people want to stay here, they are less likely to go back. If they do want to go back, of course, that solves the problem. They will no longer be here.
But I do not think the proposed legislation solves anything. For example, Mexicans are insulted by the proposed barrier, rightfully so. Besdies we have NAFTA, an agreement that benefits both Mexico and the United States, where they can do business here and so on.
I look on this immigration reform as more fuzzy thinking on the part of politicians where they are more interested in bullying people than actually solving problems. Why not crack down on document forgery? This is certainly a more serious crime than mere trespassing by illegals and what about taxes? It is hard to believe that politicians so dedicated to cleaning out the rich have no interest in collecting standard taxes that the government could use for proper purposes.
The government used to help people flee oppression. But this crew can’t even find Osama so how can they be expected to figure out what is illegal. Perhaps it’s the Hillary influence. After all, she believes in farming out the hot sweaty work and she is in good standing in Washington, currently running for President and raking in the cash.
Don’t you just wonder at what is going ON?
