So, have you diehard Harry Potter fans already finished reading book 7 and seen the latest movie? I am a huge fan and can’t lay claim to either just yet.

I’ll tell you know why…I just can’t bear the thought of the story coming to an end. I plan on holding off buying the book for as long as possible, which will probably be about an hour after I see “The Order of the Phoenix.” Yes, I’ve been told how the newest book ends, and yes, even knowing ahead of time I will still be saddened. It will be a very depressing day when I reach the last word and realize that’s it. I dread it already.

Yesterday I took part in a message board thread on the site that owns ARS Compendium, where we writers exchange daily news and information. I put the question out as to whether a writer should feel any obligation to the public if their idea has resulted in an explosion of Harry Potter proportions. Granted, the series must have taken a toll on J.K.Rowling’s personal life in the last decade, but I doubt I could purposely end a creation that had become part of my life. (The fact that continuation would be in demand by a greater part of the world would keep me going more than the money or fame, but that’s just me…) If I reached a good place to rest, I’d slow down, but I’d still have to aim for another book every decade or so, otherwise it would seem as if I was ignoring my own children!

I think that we all hope J.K. Rowland will change her mind sometime in the future and put out “just one more” installment, after she takes a nice long break in the Muggle World. I’ve a feeling that compared to the glamour and intrigue of Hogwart’s, she’ll realize that the world she’s created is by far more interesting than the one we call reality. We fans can’t help but appreciate the timeless escape she’s offered, whcih brings out the kid in many of us.

    Thank you, J.K.!
