Soon we are going to have real world caucuses and primaries that in the past have whittled down and refined the field of candidates for President.
Right now Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama appear to be the beneficiaries of up-to-the-minute surges that have boosted their standings in the polls. Senator Obama seems to have helped himself by ganging up on Hillary Clinton in tandem with John Edwards. In response, local New York media has dredged up old stories about marijuana and drugs that Mr. Obama had problems with making obvious that reporting has always tended to favor vested interests. Just as Rick Lazio, Hillary’s Republican Senate opponent got it for pressing this hardened political opponent and being rebuked for being aggressive, as if the Senate is a Ladies Club.
Mr. Huckabee has appealed to the religious right by knocking sin and to supporters of national security by bringing up the lack of energy supplies this country suffers from. I am personally trying to figure out why he is so late to re-establish Cotton Mather’s legacy? An appeal to the Taliban? Compassion? He seems to have missed the boat on whatever Gennifer Flowers was doing on the Arkansas payroll, although his interest in energy is welcome considering the current policy proclivities of this sittingt Congress. This also is not the he who is without sin approach.
Question: Why isn’t anyone else making headlines about energy independence and why is Hillary the only very liberal about sex candidate?
Now Obama and Clinton are debating experience. She claims to be irresponsible for whatever went wrong during her husband’s tenure, but is willing to claim credit for whatever went right Of course, that brings up the issue of bad experience.
I figure the Democratic nomination is going to boil down to a choice between Obama and Clinton with John Edwards boxing himself out by railing against people with power. I hope he is aware that he is running for the job of Commander In Chief and Leader Of The Free World.
On the Republican side, we have Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee making moves on the inside and my experience is that the polls may not translate for Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson’s high media profile is not currently translating into delegate success for him.
Looking at today’s headline reflecting President Bush’s efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East and the Fed trying to boost the national economy and helping the stock market to rally, it is unclear which candidate will be helped and who will be hindered creating strong interest in the days leading up to the first primary and caucus and leaving me to say we shall see what we shall see in the coming days, weeks and months.
