About This Editor: I am a writer. Have been writing for other sites, but expect to do most of my future work HERE! My expertise extends from the esoteric such as burning hydrogen to the unpredictability of the stock market and my writing makes me a jack of all trades and exasperated master of none. I have had some influence over national wildfire and water policy and there are hints of a change in energy policy, BUT as Samuel Goldwyn once said, "A verbal promise is not worth the paper it is written on."

The Sheriff of Wall Street has quietly slipped out of town in craven shame with his pants back up and his black socks still on, embarrassed by a lynch mob reaction from political opponents to news of his paying for play, leaving them feeling he had badly misplayed his hand and overstayed his mandate for what it was worth.

He was quickly replaced by the lovable David Paterson, former Senate Minority Leader and, recently, Lieutenant Governor, who has morphed into the polar opposite of the former self imagined steamroller he replaced:  congenial, affable, easy going, with a sense of humor and the ability to get around the town despite serious handicaps.

This shocking turn of events was probably expedited by Governor Spitzer’s antagonistic approach to dealing with other politicians, including the not so loyal opposition.  Unlike lover boy Bill Clinton, who also got caught playing the field, poor Mr. Spitzer had angered the opposition with attacks on their ethics and even alienated some his own by railing against the corrupt atmosphere in Albany, the State capital.  Remember William Jefferson Clinton obfuscated his way out of his impeachment trial.  Eliot Spitzer never had a chance.  There would be no such merciful defense for the outed Sheriff of Wall Street.  When last seen he was driving his family to a vacation home upstate.  After all he had been through he certainly needed a vacation.

Ironically, the new Governor has quickly confessed to playing around, but not much political hay has been made, to date, of these tabloid like true confessions.  Perhaps it is the frat house atmosphere that permeates the state capital.  Perhaps politicians are tired of performing hatchet jobs and taking holier than thou positions.  Perhaps they feel the political allure of moral double standards has played itself out on the electorate.  In any case, newly minted Governor David Paterson is currently negotiating a new state budget and acting as if he intends to stay.

Unfortunately, the new state administration appears to have taken notice of allegations of more state police spying on politicians, of all people.  There is a certain sense of outrage in Albany that somebody, somehow might get caught doing something reprehensible.  So there is an investigation to make sure it doesn’t happen again.  After all, political shakedowns are a very, very serious offense.

It appears State Attorney General Andres Cuomo may be investigating.  He is the official who figured out that former Governor Spitzer might be up to no good after the Albany District Attorney brushed the whole matter over as bad politics.

Brings to mind the fall of former State Controller Alan Hevesi, who figured out how to use state employees as personal servants and might still be under investigation for campaign and financial violations, if anyone can ever figure out what happened.
