Ethics, or the lack thereof, in New York politics, is back in the news. Its seems there were leaks and spying and all kinds of chicanery on the part of Eliot Spitzer, the self proclaimed Sheriff of Wall Street, and his gang of political operatives, as they sought inside dope on an investigation into political hanky panky by a certain politician in a high place seeking political hype and all sorts of mayhem for people he viewed with suspicion such as Wall Street financiers, executives of big firms, the not so loyal political opposition and other high profile subjects he could give agita to in an effort to generate head lines to enthrall his political groupies who were seeking a measure of equality and come uppance against those they view with jealousy, hidden animosity, contempt or even outright scorn. Everyone knows they deserve what they get. After all, isn’t this America? Land of the free? Homes for free and and miraculous benefits so long as you don’t look too deeply.
As you will recall, the last chapter ended with the resignation of some one who can be called Idiot Spitter yet is recalled fondly by those who viewed his hi jinks with enthusiasm. They want more so they want him back. Though it appears he wore out his welcome in the State Capitol.
Worse, Eliot Spitzer seems to have an arrogance about being investigated that seems to defy common sense and decency. There may be an official investigation into alleged wrong doing yet The Sheriff of Wall Street seems to think defiance, arrogance, contrariness and even uncivil contempt displays good citizenship, a respect for the law and maybe even honesty. Personally, I think it sounds like a questionable approach. Like whatever Eliot The Idiot Spitzer has done wrong should not be exposed. To the contrary, his conduct seems to warrant further investigation. It raises such questions as what is he actually doing now. Is there something wrong with him? Are his pants zipped? Is the world a safer or better place? are just the first ones with many others coming right to mind.
The term pant load comes to mind but that might be keeping it polite as Mr. Spitter’s behavior would appear to merit more appropriate terminology.
In terms of legal reform, the Albany District Attorney, David Soares seems to be on the right track by calling for stiffer penalties and reclassification from misdemeanor to felony for theft of public services such as misusing public employees for personal benefit including running errands or working on a personal residence in place of public duties, which is what they are supposed to be paid for in the first place. In fact, I think the law should go further and let the public know what some of our public servants are really like so the voters will know what they are getting in advance. Why not require a list of their peculiarities so the next tempter tantrum or questionable liaison can be scoffed at with a mix of derision and measured enthusiasm.
Along these lines, the investigation into Charles Rangel’s financial reports and tax filings has been quiet recently despite rumors along the way that there were more mistakes than those alleged in his admission that he did not correctly calculate what he owed on his Punta Cana cabana holdings. There are rumors of houses being bought and sold and other financial dealings that contained inaccuracies and non-payment of taxes. Checking on sixty or one hundred pages should not take this long. It does not sound like there is equal protection of the law here, that’s for sure. It would appear Charles Rangel is receiving favored treatment meaning he is more equal than others since gross errors and outrageous mistakes in official filings don’t count for much and this is a tax matter. Why aren’t all public officials audited? As thoroughly as the petty tax criminals who receive offers of five to ten at tax payer expense.
Finally, I continue to want to show that I continue to persist on wild fires, flood control, fighting pirates and using clean, low cost energy substitutes but nothing comes up when I do a web or news search. So I again want to ask what is federal policy and is it adequate? I am even Petitioning the Congress for Redress of Grievances. Rest assured, I am an expert in Polite Persistence and Dogged Determination.
