The economy stinks. Unemployment is high and, according to the Obama Administration’s own admissions, likely to get worse. People do not have money and businesses are in the red. There are fewer and fewer jobs. The federal deficit is enormous and getting worse.
There is a war on terror ongoing and there does not appear to be an official explanation for much of anything financially relevant, except that now the country needs more free medicine paid for by the rich who may or may not have big losses and less money in what may be a serious recession with businesses closing and bankruptcies rising seriously contributing to the general lack of work. Although being healthy for free is a very nice benefit so long as you do not have to pay.
While none of this is obviously good since it implies hard times and suffering, particularly the job losses, we have had some expressions of concern from President Obama that the economy needs help because he wanted and still wants to stimulate things. However, he appears to have maxed out his credit sources and seems to have nowhere to turn despite the enormous resources of the largest economy in this world.
Time passes and the President has gone on to the Sotomayor nomination and health care. Plus many luxurious foreign travels with exclusive escorts, all in the name of national security, good foreign relations or even world peace. Of course, Barry Barack Hussein Obama manages to have a good time wherever he goes.
Unfortunately, none of this involves an economic solution to the national, no, dare I say world recession as countries have become increasingly intertwined and twisted into one big global economic ball. Big government. Big spending. Tapped out credit. Barry Barack Obama does not appear to believe in private enterprise, business capital, strengthening industry and domestic production. Otherwise, he would show more interest in increasing domestic energy production, particularly water power of all sorts, where I continue to decry federal shortcomings, especially since flooding is such a dangerous situation and water power is generally cheap and a bonus for good water management. When contemplating such matters, of course, it helps to know where a politician is coming from, what he is looking for, where he wants to go and what he wants to accomplish. While, as we all know, there has been a lot of nonsense about energy, especially about more oil being discovered despite the now acknowledged problem of global warming, it is also generally true that water power is readily available, comparatively cheap, non polluting, especially in terms of hydrocarbons and also relatively easy to produce with the added bonus that burnable hydrogen gas can supplement natural gas supplies up to twenty percent right away. Think about it.
I am reminded of what passed for a debate about forest fires when Tom Daschle was Democratic Minority Leader when what he really was after was continuing influence rather than a viable solution to the problem. He was especially fond of having his thumb in the pie rather than protecting people, property, national forests and endangered wildlife. Under his aegis, the debate tended towards not doing anything, even though government action was needed. Should public officials really want to show interest they could always approve an official body to pursue continuing real world solutions as a practical step in the right direction. This, right now, is not being done because the country is going to get free medical care whether they understand it or not and whether they can afford it or not. I can also point to the fact Tom Daschle is outside of government due to a lax approach to taxes. Shows you what is really going on in Washington.
Enabling use of hydro power would lower energy costs, replace expensive imports with cheaper non polluting alternatives and improve the national economic base. Instead this President allows the news to be filled with threats from primitive extremists who want to take away our strength and whip our Heimie. Where is the security in that? How is that safe? Perhaps if we go over basic issues one more time we can see not only how important water power is but also how helpful it will be going forward.
As for the Sotomayor nomination, she is after all a highly educated Latina woman. That is where she is coming from. Not much in this world is going to change this. In a case involving old, white males versus any other group, especially minorities, I would expect her to show a lot of sympathy for certain groups over others no matter what. Unfortunately, I am an aggrieved old, white male and this nomination leaves me cold, especially in light of the recurring issues I politely but persistently continue to raise. Also, while she might not be playing the field, she does not rate particularly high on personal domestic issues nor on the kind of inclusiveness that I am interested in such as changing tired old political shibboleths that no longer have relevance or meaning or have become patently false as I continue to try to make clear. Perhaps if Sonia Sotomayor were a green eyed lizard or leather skinned alien with a purple tongue, I would feel safer and more included. As it is, I keep hoping she will uphold settled law.
Since Judge Sotomayor seems destined for confirmation and she may stick to settled law in her decisions, I am far more interested in the practical issues I continue to raise such as flood control, water distribution and fighting wild fires so I am not going to comment further on such a sensitive area when I have enough political kindle to keep matters going for the near term at the very least. However, the lack of progress on the questions raised about Charles Rangel’s tax problems would be an indication, in my humble opinion, that honesty and the public interest continue not to be much of a priority in Washington under the current leadership.
Need I say more? Although I am aware hurricane season is coming upon the country so Texas, which is now in a severe drought could face the reverse situation if seasonal luck goes against them and it is rainy season in Somalia so the dreaded pirates of the Gulf of Aden, not wanting to get wet, are laying low. News reports suggest this might become more interesting come September.
In the mean time, Barry Barack Hussein Obama continues to nothing to address the serious problems I have raised. I mean seriously, folks, where is he? It’s like he is playing favorites with no place to go. Really.
