I have been looking at the articles I have recently published and those that I am working on and fully expect to keep writing about important current events like flooding, wild fires, health care, education, corruption and politics as they all get wrapped up together going forward. Where all this will end is anyone’s guess as American politicians are excellent at dissuasion and pleasant dithering along with happy endings and royal benefits, even though they have been known to solve many a problem succinctly, if not elegantly when and if they ever act or not depending on the state of the union, politics and whatever else they consider important.
I, of course, would like neat solutions to many of the troubling problems I follow so I will keep on filling in the details until the puzzle looks finished.
Although solving a problem usually takes a nice solution but not always. Lies sometimes work. Fear and dread sometimes work. So does money. Or passing a new law. Even repealing a golden oldies has had a real world impact. Whatever it takes.
It is election season and there are three elections that I consider important, New Jersey Governor, Virginia and New York City. I expect to follow all three. Well, maybe not Virginia as it is too far away for me. But New Jersey and the Big apple are certainly there for the picking. And Linda McMahon, the Republican running for Chris Dodd’s Senate seat has already begun to campaign. Has a nice web site all up and running. I may dig deeper into that.
I have been writing about certain candidates. I expect Mike The Mayor to handily beat Wee Willie Thompson. I do not believe Controller Thompson has many winning issues other than he is competing with the incumbent Mayor and is the Democrat, for what that is worth and Wee Willie seems willing to play that card to the end since he cannot compete with Mike the Mayor’s deep pockets.
I expect the New Jersey Governor’s race to tighten up although the issues raised have been more interesting than not as has the approaches taken. The economy. Corruption. Jobs. Education. Not so much pay to play. Although corruption stories keep popping up in New Jersey, more so than other states like Connecticut, for example. Then there are taxes. Will money talk in the Garden State. Whose? When? What for? Time will tell or not.
I have almost wrapped up a story on this and expect to see it posted on www.useless-knowledge.com. Obviously, I am making it easy to call up the story.
I can watch the health care debate and House and Senate votes on CSpan. I also expect to finish an article about that issue soon and have it posted, too.
I am following the national economy and the terrible job situation. Boy have I got something to say about politicians putting their head in the sand. This recovery has not been as good as previous upturns. It is taking too long with too few jobs in the mix. There is something fishy going on. I may try to pin that down and go over it in detail as best I can
Energy, too. I think water power is being willfully neglected. Shamefully.
There was a pirate story yesterday. Thirty six Spanish fishermen taken captive. Have to check on that. A $1.5 million ransom to free a Turkish ship. The Somali piracy seems destined to continue. This could be interesting.
Is it 163 attacks this year? Or 146? The pirate saga may re-emerge bigger and badder than ever. I will have to keep checking. With the new hijacking, there is more to check on.
I can write something sharp about that.
That should do for now. More stories to follow.
